Embalming
Except in certain special cases, embalming is not required by law. Embalming may be necessary, however, if you select certain funeral arrangements, such as a funeral with viewing. If you do not want embalming, you usually have the right to choose an arrangement that does not require you to pay for it, such as direct cremation or immediate burial.
The person with the right to control disposition must accept or decline embalming by signing a state approved form.
Additionally, a funeral establishment must refrigerate an un-embalmed body in its possession if burial, cremation, or hydrolysis does not take place within 24 hours.
As a practical matter, however, you may wish to authorize embalming if there is a delay before a public viewing. Keep in mind that neither embalming nor refrigeration prevents or stops the decomposition of a body. NOTE: A coroner may require embalming in certain circumstances.
Cremation Information
Cremation is the alternative to burial. It is a personal choice you make for your loved one. It is likely less expensive and offers flexibility with time and burial alternatives.

We provide you with an opportunity to be present at the crematory (witness cremation), staying during cremation or implementing an idea to create something special and make it part of the cremation. Additional fees and restrictions may apply.
